We’ve all likely been there at some point or another. Trying to get into an important system and our password no longer works. 🙁
With WordPress it can be scary… especially if you can reset your password via email recovery.
Fortunately if you can get back into your host this can be done directy through PHPMyAdmin.
If you can’t get into your hosting account either then you’ll need to reset your password first with your webhost, fortunately if you exhaust email recovery, etc you should be able to phone and get help that way.
Once your back in or if you can get in anyway, you’ll want to head to PHPMyAdmin and then click the databases -> database name
From here, you’ll need to locate wp_users (it may start with something else if the tables have been set to start with something different for security reasons). Click on browse and then locate your user.
From here click edit. You need to enter a new Password but you should change the drop-down on the left (labeled function) from blank to MD5.
Lastly click save/submit and you should be able to get back in. Good luck!
